Your child will explore the Earth as a stranded alien and play educational math and language games to collect stars for their ship. They will visit lots of different places and collect items as they travel and learn interesting facts.
Educational Aspects
Geography - There is a map of the world with various locations for you to visit. These locations begin locked and are opened as your child plays. Your child can travel between the Sahara Desert and New York and much more. Each place has interesting facts about the local area or environment too.
Mathematics - Each location has several math games where you child will learn all of the basic skills, in a fun and engaging way. These games also count towards a score in math and they can go up in levels. Each time your child gains a new level the questions can become more challenging, using a higher level of math.
Language - As well as math games there are also language games. These test a variety of areas such as spelling, word association and the usage of nouns and forms. In a similar system to the other games your child can go up in levels and the challenge of the games increases.
Reading Skills - To understand the rules, and what you can do or how to play your child will need to be able to do a lot of reading. Some of the language used in the instructions is quite a high level of English so this game is more appropriate for the older elementary school ages.
Hand Eye Coordination - To play the games you need to be able to move the mouse around, but also move items from one place to the correct place in the pattern or area. Some of the games also require you to click and hold the mouse to draw lines between boxes.
Less Educational Aspects
The Arcade - As well as educational games there is also an arcade where your child can spend the stars they earned to play fun games. These games are there to play as much as they want, but each game has a cost of 20 stars when you want to play them.
Star Collecting - Every math or language game that you play will reward you with stars. These are used to buy everything in the game, from the ship parts to fun outfits or items for your home. This does teach management of money and you have to earn them before you spend them.
Special Features
The Concept - BrainNook has been specifically designed as a learning and educational game. While there are a few things that are just for fun the main object is to help kids improve their skills and confidence. This means that there is a special emphasis on learning and making it fun at the same time.
