Quick Brief

The department of agriculture needs your child’s help in testing out new technologies to achieve sustainable farming while maximizing crop yield.

Educational Aspects

Sustainability -An educational game that helps bring awareness and to educate the younger generation about sustainability, Top Crop by National Geographic managed to do so in a fun and interactive way. Your child will learn about the term “sustainability”, why is it important and how it can be applied to farming.

Problem Solving -Every strategy your child come up with and use in the game may actually be used to solve real world problems. He/she will be contributing to the global effort.

Planning Ahead -Your child will need to plan ahead which technology they want to spend their tech points in so as to maximize their yields in the long run.

While playing the game, they will also need to decide whether or not to use the tools they have to solve a crop problem at the cost of sustainability and thus getting less tech points for that round or to simply weather through the problems and take the loss (in terms of crop yield).

General Knowledge -Each aspect of the game is explained in detail so your child will be able to learn more about farming and various farming tools and techniques, in addition to sustainability.

Science -The many advanced technologies offered in the game are explained in detail as well. Your child will be able to learn more about the combination of the various fields of science used in a farm.

Less Educational Aspects

Motivation -By knowing that they are contributing to the global sustainability effort, your child will be more motivated to play the game repeatedly just so he/she could find the best strategy and balance between sustainability and maximizing crop yields.

Spending and Saving -Tech points may sometimes be hard to get. Your child will need to learn when to spend their points and where to spend them, or to save them up and buy another better upgrade that will cost more points.
