Quick Brief

I Love Shapes is a great game that teaches your child shape and color recognition using the beloved Curious George and a conveyor belt of different colored shapes. This game is part of a series of interactive games affiliated with Curious George, an educational animated television series on PBS. Like the show the companion games, encourage children to explore science, engineering, and math in the world around them.

Educational Aspects

Shape Recognition- In this game, your child controls Curious George as he jumps between three conveyor belts carrying different colored shapes. Your child must place Curious George in front of the right conveyor belt in order for him to grab the correct colored shape which was introduced at the start of the game by The Man with the Yellow Hat.

Colors - Colors are indirectly taught here as well. When the shape is introduced at the beginning of the game, so is the color of the shape. Then the child must focus both on the right shape and color.

Counting - The child must get 5 correct answers to move on to the next game. There is a scoreboard that lights up with each right move.

Up and Down Arrows- Curious George is maneuvered by the use of the Up and Down Arrows on the keyboard. This is a great way to introduce your child to that aspect of the keyboard or to strengthen that skill.

Hand Eye Coordination - By having to maneuver Curious George to place him "in the right place at the right time," among the conveyor belts of shapes, your child learns to coordinate what he sees onscreen with fine motor skills using the up and down arrows on the keyboard.

Less Educational Aspects

Recommendations for Improvement- If the name of the shape was said out-loud that would be helpful in teaching the names of the shapes and not just their recognition. Currently, they feature the shape and refer to it as "this shape."

Special Features

Encouragement- Every time your child picks the correct colored shape, the Man in the Yellow Hat offers words of encouragement, using phrases like "Great Work" and "That's Awesome." This helps to motivate the child. In addition, for every correct answer a star lights up on the score board. When all the stars light up the game is over and the child is commended.

Levels of Difficulty- When your child finishes a game, a more difficult level follows it. This makes the game more challenging and more exciting.

Extras- The game includes printables and video clips to keep your child entertained.
