Quick Brief

From the creators of one of the world’s leading learning program, ABCmouse, Adventure Academy is a brilliant virtual world game that’s cleverly designed to be both fun to play and also educational. It covers a wide range of topics from science and math to English and is suitable for kids between the ages of 8 to 13. You can get a free 30-day trial and if your kid likes it, you can continue the subscription paying only $9.99 per month thereafter.

Educational Aspects

Science -The Adventure Academy has a dedicated science wing where your child can learn about how the world works through magnificent mechanical inventions, the natural world, or by studying about the past via fossils and bones. There are plenty of video series available as well such as the Crash Courses, Science Fair (where real-life kids perform simple experiments) and Escape from Fred (similar to the Inside the Human Body episodes from the Magic School Bus) series.

Math -Although the Math wing isn’t opened yet (it will, soon!), the game has a kiosk outside the wing where you can play a math game called Bee Multiplication. There will definitely be a lot more math-related topics covered once we get to enter the wing and access the kiosk there.

Grammar and Writing -The Adventure Academy focuses a lot on teaching the English language as well, covering all forms of grammatical rules that are usually taught to kids between the ages of 8 to 13.

Most of these come in the form of funny yet educational video lessons like the “Use Your Words” series where an English professor found a cave girl in his travels and decided to adopt her and teach her how to use words to express herself. There are also many more video series covering this subject including Grammar Kingdom and Mr. Wordsmith.

Reading -Like any self-respecting institution of learning, the Adventure Academy has an impressive library of books. From fiction to non-fiction, these books don’t only teach a moral lesson or a scientific concept; they can help your child improve his/her reading skills too.

Typing -The computer is an integral part of modern life and it is crucial for your child to learn to type fast and accurately. At the Academy, there are several games available for your child to test their typing skills. However, note that not all of the games are working right now – the Adventure Academy is still currently a work in progress!

Less Educational Aspects

Motivation -Your child will earn coins when they play an educational game or watches an educational video. These coins can then be accumulated and spent on decorative items for their virtual home or on new wearable items for their avatar. This helps to motivate your child to play even more, and subsequently, to learn more.

Creativity -The game gives your child a free virtual home that they can decorate whichever way they like. This freedom to create often encourages creativity.

Socializing -Adventure Academy is an MMO of sorts since there’s a part in the game where your child can visit their friends’ homes and also invite their friends over to their place to hang out.

Critical Thinking - There’s a detective-themed game called Kitty City Mysteries where your child will get to solve various crimes (simple crimes like theft) by connecting the pieces of evidence they get and statements from witnesses and suspects, which might be false.

Special Features

Difficulty Levels -The game offers 4 difficulty levels ranging from Beginner right up to Expert, and you can adjust the levels according to your child’s age and current proficiency level.
