ABCmouse Magic Rainbow Traceables is an app that lets your child learn how to write the alphabet (both normal and cursive forms) and numbers, as well as Chinese characters, by tracing them on a screen.

Educational Aspects

Alphabets -The app provides both uppercase and lowercase letters for your child to trace with a rainbow-colored brush. This also includes their cursive counterparts.

Numbers -In addition to alphabets, the game also lets your child trace the numbers 0 to 50.

Spelling -The app contains word packs as well. These word packs contain some of the most common words that a child will learn as well as a few more challenging words for the more advanced child. By tracing each letter of a word, your child will not only learn how to spell the word, but if the word isn’t a familiar one, he or she will essentially be learning a new word. However, please note that the definition of the words are not provided.

Language -Aside from English, the game even has simple Chinese characters for your child to trace. There’s a tutorial for every word, showing your child the correct order of strokes since each stroke is heavily emphasized in the language. These characters each come with their own English translation so your child will know the meaning of the Chinese characters.

Shapes -There is also a shapes-tracing pack where your child can trace some of the more common shapes, including the star.

Less Educational Aspects

Fine Motor Skills -Tracing is a highly precise skill and require a high amount of control over movement. Your child will basically be honing their fine motor skills as they follow the dotted lines the best they can.

Drawing Skills -Since there is a tracing pack containing cute line drawings of everyday objects, animals and plants, your child will be able to learn how to draw simple items through tracing them via the app. This lays the foundation they may need to develop their drawing skills.

Creativity -The game also has a Free Paint mode where your child can draw whatever he or she likes. This mode offers multiple brush sizes for your child to choose from, but it has only 1 color – rainbow. There’s an eraser, an undo function, and a new canvas option as well.

Motivation -Your child will sometimes get tickets for tracing a word, a letter, a drawing, or a character correctly. These tickets can then be exchanged for amazing prizes and even fishes for their classroom’s aquarium back at ABCmouse HQ (the browser version).
